Volunteer to speak/judge
We'll waive the cost of registration for advisers willing to lead a session of interest (beginning or advanced level). We also need advisers to judge contests and offer on-site critiques. If you'd be willing to help, please complete this speaker/volunteer form.
Online, print news, yearbook and broadcast staffs are encouraged to enter the Best of the West contest. Students who would like to participate in individual on-site contests need to sign up at registration. Some contest categories will use the keynote speaker's presentation as their material, while others will offer a prompt. Participating students will be in their contests during the first breakout session time slot. There is no cost to participate, however a limited number of students from each school may enroll in each category.
Juniors and seniors will have the opportunity to sign up to tour the UO School of Journalism and Communication. Space for each tour time is limited. Sign up at registration; first come, first served. Advisers, please keep track of who from your school is signed up to attend and when.
Advisers, look for on-site critique sign up sheets at registration. Experienced advisers will skim your publication and offer a few tips for improvement. News publication and yearbook staffs are welcome. Online and broadcast staffs are also welcome but need to provide their own access to material (laptop with wifi to connect to website, for example).
This event is co-sponsored by the Oregon Journalism Education Association and the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication.
